                                          GURUSHAKTI CHHOSKIN

 # This Gurushakti chhoskin thanka is based on Nyingma order which was found upon the exoteric teachings  Of Padma Sambhaba,
who has to tame the native deities of Tibet and bind them to the service of Buddhism.

 # Padmasambhaba can be depicted in many ways, such as in his eight main manifestations;or with his twenty five main Tinbetan
disciples;with his life stories;or in his Glorious copper Mountain Pure Land.

 # Generally,he is shown with his two consorts;Mandarava ,the Indian princess and Yeshe Tsogyal,a tibetan queen, both of which
      are ranked as Great Adepts.

 # Although there are variations in his attire, customarily he is grabed with the robes of a prince:a white silken undergarment
covered by a blue-green patterned silk overgarments, over which is thrown a dark red-brown woolen robe.

 # He wears a hat of his place of birth,Uddiyana.

 # In his right hand, he holds the vajra, symbol of compassion's power. In his left hand, he holds a skull bowl of blood, symbolic
      of purification of egotism.

#  In the crook of his left arm rests on adept's staff(khatvang),at the apex of which are three heads in varied stages of decay:
one freshly severed head, one shrunken head, and one skull, symbolizing the conquest of desire, hate and ignorance respectively.

#  some of the major deities of Nyingma Order are Hyagriva with horse's head,Vajrakilaya(dorje Phurba) and Vajrapani in various forms.
Mahakala is an important protector deity.

#  These are terrific manifestations of strange and awesome appearance, not meant to frighten, but to help the practitioner undertake
and achieve the task of clearing away the obstructions to enlightenment.

#  Much Nyngma Buddhist art has a somewhat mysterious and somber aspect,a kind of strong and sensitive power.

#  It also seems- although more evidence is needed to be certain- that a distinctive painting style was evolving in the late 14th
to the 15th century that may be associated with the Nyingma Order in particular.

#  Organized in rows around the central shrine are roundels, bordered by a simple vine motif and containing individual figures.

#  They include the original seven monks ordained by Shantarakshita, some of the hundred and eight translators sent to India by King
Trisong Detsen, and the twenty five main disciples of Padma sambhaba.Of these, the monks wear the red pandit's hat,red garment, and
brown outer robe.Their lively postures are quite individualized..

#  At the top centre,is Shakyamuni buddha, with Padma's progenitors,Amitayus on his right and shadakshari Avalokiteswara on his left.,

#  Below, the pedestal,to left and right respectively on either side of the lotus stalk, are the Indian master Shantarakshita and king trisong Detsen.

#  On the lowest row,in the centre are three large archetype deities who are prominent in Nyingma practice.

#  An archetype deity is a form of an enlightened being that expresses particular energies that the practitioner seeks to experience, and thus is a physical

paradigm of a particular type of enlightenment experience.

#  The figure of Padma Sambhaba and the disciples reveal an advanced style of drapery, clearly utilizing elements of Chinese loose drapery depiction.
